Overview

Long Sought-For Pond is a 105-acre great pond off Groton Road (Route 40) in Westford. It averages 12 feet deep with a 26-foot maximum, and most of its roughly 2 miles of shoreline is lined with homes.

Fishing

MassWildlife stocks it with trout every spring and fall and calls it a popular trout spot in both seasons. When the ice holds, largemouth bass and chain pickerel are readily caught. It has produced largemouth bass, chain pickerel, rainbow trout and tiger trout big enough for Freshwater Sportfishing Awards recognition.

Species

MassWildlife surveys found largemouth bass, chain pickerel, white perch, yellow perch, black crappie, bluegill, pumpkinseed, brown bullhead, yellow bullhead and American eel. Stocked trout are added in spring and fall.

Seasons

Access

MassWildlife manages a gravel car-top boat access off Groton Road (Route 40) on the south shore. Parking is a small gravel lot across the road, so use the crosswalk, since Groton Road can be busy. Shore fishing is limited to the area near the launch.

Boat ramps & launches

MassWildlife gravel car-top access (no trailers), Route 40.

Ice fishing

MassWildlife says largemouth bass and pickerel bite readily through the ice when it holds. Check the ice yourself.
