About Cast the Water

Cast the Water helps you find a lake, pond or river to fish. Search by name, town or ZIP, or look at what is near you, then open a water to see its map, stocking records, likely species and the forecast.

You can sign in to watch a water and get an email when it is stocked.

Where the data comes from

Stocking records come from state fish and wildlife agencies, either straight from their published feeds or through LurePassion open data (CC BY 4.0). Water names and locations come from the USGS Geographic Names Information System, shorelines from the USGS National Hydrography Dataset, likely species from USGS Aquatic GAP ranges, forecasts from the National Weather Service, and the base map from OpenStreetMap contributors via OpenFreeMap.

Agencies publish on their own schedules, so a stocking can show up here days after it happens, and some states do not publish at all. Always check the state's own rules before you fish.
