Privacy

You can search, browse waters and use the map without an account. This page covers what we collect when you do, and what we keep if you sign in.

If you sign in

Sign-in is handled by CorroborateMe. When you sign in, CorroborateMe sends us a sign-in token with your CorroborateMe account id and email address. We store the account id and email address so we can keep you signed in and know which watches are yours. We also hold that sign-in token for up to 14 days so that signing out here signs you out of CorroborateMe too.

We collect email addresses to send stocking alerts. Alerts go to your sign-in email unless you give us a different alert address, which we confirm with a one-time code sent to it. Every alert email has an unsubscribe link.

We also keep what you save: the waters you watch, the species and event types you want alerts for, saved searches, and a home ZIP code if you enter one.

Your location

If you use "near me", your browser asks before sharing your location. We use it to find nearby waters and the forecast, and we do not save it to your account. You can search by town or ZIP instead.

Cookies and browser storage

We do not set cookies. The site keeps a few things in your browser's own storage: your sign-in token while you are signed in, the last state you picked, and your last search so the back link works. Clearing your browser data removes them.

Analytics

We do not use third-party analytics or ad trackers. We keep simple daily counts, such as how many water pages were opened in each state, with no names, email addresses or IP addresses attached.

Services we rely on

Cloudflare hosts the site and sends our email, so it handles your requests and the messages we send you. Map tiles load from OpenFreeMap, so your browser contacts their servers when you view a map. Water photos load from external sites, mostly Wikimedia Commons, so your browser contacts those sites when a page shows a photo. CorroborateMe handles sign-in under its own privacy terms.

We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not share it for advertising.

Deleting your data

You can remove watches and saved searches at any time from your account. To delete your account and the email addresses we hold, write to hello@castthewater.com from the address on the account and we will remove it.
