Overview

At 298 acres, Spot Pond is a great pond in the middle of the Middlesex Fells Reservation in Stoneham. Because it is surrounded by protected land, its shore is wooded with no development. It averages 15 feet deep (47 max) and has few weeds.

Fishing

Combine a hike in the Fells with spring trout or bass along the rocky, wooded shore. Award-size smallmouth bass, chain pickerel and yellow perch have come from Spot Pond.

Species

MassWildlife surveys found largemouth and smallmouth bass; chain pickerel; and panfish such as bluegill, pumpkinseed and yellow perch. Trout are stocked each spring.

Regulations

MassWildlife freshwater regulations apply: https://www.mass.gov/freshwater-fishing-regulations. Check local town or DCR rules for access fees and restrictions.

Licensing

A Massachusetts freshwater fishing license is required for anglers 15 and older.

Access

Private boats are not allowed. Instead, DCR's boat livery on Woodland St. rents cartop boats you can launch there. Shore anglers can follow Fells trails from the livery, from parking areas on New South Street, or from the Stone Zoo (Middlesex Fells DCR office).
