Overview

Mirror Lake (31 acres), once known as Hell Pond, and Little Mirror Lake (8 acres) are steep-sided, forested kettle-hole ponds off Patton Road in Harvard. Mirror Lake is unusually deep, averaging 29 feet and reaching 65 feet, with water clear to 10–15 feet.

Fishing

MassWildlife stocks Mirror Lake with trout each spring and says trout are caught here all year, holding in deeper water as summer goes on. The steep shoreline gives shore anglers easy access to deep water. It has produced largemouth bass, brook trout, rainbow trout and sunfish big enough for Freshwater Sportfishing Awards recognition. No MassWildlife survey data exist for these ponds.

Techniques

In summer, fish deep for trout. The steep banks make it easy to reach deep water from shore.

Regulations

MassWildlife freshwater fishing regulations apply: https://www.mass.gov/freshwater-fishing-regulations. Confirm current seasons, limits and any special rules there; this page is not a legal source.

Licensing

Anglers 15 and older need a Massachusetts fishing license (MassWildlife).

Access

Magic Mirror Lake, a private company, runs a beach and paved boat launch off Patton Road on the west shore. The gate opens daily during swim season, when there's a use fee. Otherwise, park at the gate and walk in. Trails in the Mirror Lake Conservation Area give excellent shore access to both ponds, and you can carry a canoe or kayak over a short portage to Little Mirror Lake. Only electric motors are allowed.
