Overview
Covering 18,372 acres in Oconee and Pickens counties, Lake Keowee is a Duke Energy reservoir that cools the Oconee Nuclear Station. It was formed by damming the Little and Keowee rivers and is deep, averaging around 50 feet with a maximum depth near 155 feet and about 387 miles of shoreline. Bass fishing ranks among the favorite activities here, and anglers can catch four kinds of black bass: largemouth, smallmouth, spotted and redeye. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources lists nine boat ramps, 17 fish attractors and three fishing access sites on the lake. Keowee-Toxaway State Park has a canoe and kayak launch and a trail down to the water, and anglers there catch bass, bream, crappie and catfish. Upstream, Eastatoe Creek feeds into the lake from Pickens County and has its own seasonal trout rules.
Regulations
Lake Keowee has a largemouth bass minimum length limit and a combined daily limit for all black bass species. Eastatoe Creek above the lake has a seasonal catch and release trout rule with single hook artificial lures only.
