Overview
Fishing Creek Reservoir is a run of the river lake on the Catawba River about 9 miles southeast of Lancaster, in Chester and Lancaster counties. It covers about 3,431 acres but holds little storage, and its deepest water is around 100 feet. The reservoir dates to 1916 and is formed by the dam at Duke Energy's Fishing Creek hydro station, which locals call Nitrolee Dam. Floating debris is common and there are many shallow areas, so boaters need to use extra caution. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources manages the fishery and lists crappie, largemouth bass, striped bass, catfish and bream as the popular species, and it keeps up five fish attractors on the lake. Duke Energy and SCDNR maintain public boat access, and the lake has about 85 miles of shoreline.
Regulations
SCDNR lists no lake specific rules for Fishing Creek Reservoir, so statewide South Carolina freshwater rules apply. See: https://www.dnr.sc.gov/lakes/fishingcreek/regs.html
